For this exhibition Las Laguna Art Gallery is asking artists to explore the notion of cultural and pop icons. A cultural icon is an object made by a human being that is identified by members of a culture as representative of that culture or a physical thing such as the national tree, flower or pastime.

For example, America is often represented in art by an apple pie, a flag, baseball, the Statue of Liberty or an Eagle. For England cultural icons may be a red telephone booth or double-decker bus. For France, cultural icons may be the Eiffel Tower or a Gallic rooster. For Japan, cultural icons may be the Maneki-neko (beckoning cat), the Cherry blossom tree, or Koi fish.

Each country and major cities across the globe can be identified by their icons. Think of New York and the Big Apple; San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge or Trolley Car.

Pop icons can be movie stars, recording stars, athletes, or people throughout history that did something notable and are remembered long after their passing. Examples of pop icons include Elvis Presley, Gandhi, Frida Kahlo, Mozart, Einstein, Michael Jackson, Walt Disney, David Bowie, Prince, John Wayne, Bruce Lee, Elton John, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Bruce Springsteen and many others. Sometimes these pop icons can be identified by a single symbol like Prince and his use of an identifiable mark or Elton John and his iconic glasses or the Rolling Stones and the graphic lips. This exhibition invites artists to explore the premise of cultural or pop icons.

Acceptable mediums include: Acrylic, Airbrush, Charcoal, Collage, Color Pencil, Computer Art, Digital Art, Digital Photography, Drawings, Encaustic, Fiber Arts, Glass Art, Graphite, Illustration, Mixed Media, New Media, Oil, Pastel, Pen and Ink, Photo Assemblage, Printmaking, Sculpture, Traditional Photography, Video, and Watercolor.

Note: All artists who submit to this show will be accepted and have at least one of their submitted works posted and promoted on our website.  A select number of artists possibly will be selected to send their work to the gallery for the in-person exhibition at our brick and mortar gallery in Laguna Beach, California.

For this online exhibition, we challenge artists to explore the concept of memory and time. As this is an online exhibition, any and all media is acceptable.

The notion of time, the concept of memory with the idea of perception; the works for this exhibition should explore the subject of recollection.

Time has many meanings, as it relates to age. As youngsters, we have illusions that time moves unhurriedly.  As we grow, it appears to progress more quickly, until we reach a point where time appears to be slipping away from us.

We will be setting up a special page for the submissions and at least one image from each submitting artist will be selected and posted to our website and to our Facebook page.

All local, national and international artists, both professional and amateur, and multiple art mediums will be considered in this call for art. From photography to fabric, mixed media, all matter of paintings and drawings including, oil, acrylic, ink, graphite, pastels, sculpture, video and jewelry.

A portion of the proceeds from this Call for Art will be donated to the Alzheimer's Association.

If you are an artist working in Digital Art, Assemblage or Collage, Las Laguna Art Gallery wants to see your work.

For this exhibition we are looking for art that uses digital technology as part of the creative or presentation process. Artists may use software like Photoshop, Procreate, Corel Painter, or other tools to manipulate images to create paintings, drawings or pictures. Digital works may be created on a computer or phone using an application.

Assemblages are a 3-dimensional variant of the collage with elements jutting in or out of a defined substrate, or an entirely 3-D arrangement of objects and/or sculptures.

Collage is a technique by which art results from an assemblage of different forms, thus creating a new whole. The works can use traditional magazine and newspaper clippings, photographs, ribbons, paints, found objects, bits of colored or handmade papers; or the collages can be made digitally using a wide variety of digital tools or methods.

Any and all themes will be considered. All local, national and international artists, professional and amateur, for this call for art.

Note: All artists who submit to this show will be accepted and have at least  one of their submitted works posted and promoted on our website.  A  select number of artists possibly will be selected to send their work to  the gallery for the in-person exhibition at our brick and mortar  gallery in Laguna Beach, California.
